COLD TEMPS AND UNFAVORABLE FORECASTS FORCE MEMORIAL WEEKEND CANCELLATION; SEASON OPENER MOVES TO MAY 30
An unseasonably cold start to the race season has claimed the Saturday, May 23 racing event at Hibbing Speedway. Forecasts continue to look challenging for this weekend with cold and potential rain predicted. Track officials are calling the event early to allow racers and fans enough lead time to change plans for the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend. Practice is also canceled on Friday, May 22.
The good news? Sun and warm weather is on the way next week. The Weekly Racing Opener is now set for May 30, 2026 and will feature WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, Hornets, and Crown Vics.

The Iron Man Invitational originally scheduled for June 29-30, 2026, has been rescheduled to August 3-5, 2026, due to ongoing construction and facility improvements at the speedway.
SEASON OPENER PUSHED BACK, SPRINT CARS MOVED TO AUGUST: HIBBING SPEEDWAY ANNOUNCES 2026 SCHEDULE CHANGES
Hibbing Speedway has reshuffled its early 2026 schedule, canceling the May 16 opener and pushing the traditional WISSOTA opener to May 31. The Diamond Sprint Cars have also been moved off Memorial Day weekend to headline Northwoods Speedweek on August 5, along with a handful of other adjustments.
