SEASON OPENER PUSHED BACK, SPRINT CARS MOVED TO AUGUST: HIBBING SPEEDWAY ANNOUNCES 2026 SCHEDULE CHANGES

Mother Nature isn't cooperating, so we're making some adjustments to kick off the 2026 season at Hibbing Speedway. Cold temperatures and persistent rain have pushed back our track prep work, and rather than rush a subpar surface out there, we're shuffling the early-season schedule to give drivers and fans the racing they deserve.

Here's what the next few weeks look like:

Friday, May 15 — Practice is still on, gates open for a 7:00 PM start. All classes welcome. $25 in the pits, grandstands are free.

Saturday, May 16 — Canceled. The traditional WISSOTA opener now rolls out on Saturday, May 30.

Friday, May 22 — Another practice night, 7:00 PM start. All classes welcome. $25 pits, free grandstands.

Saturday, May 23 — Grassroots Saturday featuring Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Hornets, Crown Vics, and Pure Stocks. Just $5 to get in the grandstands.

Friday, July 10 — Crown Vics have been pulled from the Tardy Memorial card. With the car counts, class lineup, and fireworks, we just couldn't make the timing work.

Wednesday, August 5 — The Diamond Sprint Cars (Wing and Non-Wing) have been moved off Memorial Day weekend and will now headline the opening night of Northwoods Speedweek, supported by WISSOTA Super Stocks.

We know schedule changes are frustrating, and we appreciate everyone's patience as we work through a tough start to the year. Getting the racing surface right matters, and we'd rather take a couple extra weeks now than fight the track all season.
