47TH ANNUAL LABOR DAY SHOOTOUT TO HONOR BILL ENGELSTAD’S LEGACY AT HIBBING SPEEDWAY
Hibbing, MN – The 47th Annual Labor Day Shootout at Hibbing Speedway will not only launch “special season” for WISSOTA-sanctioned tracks, but also mark the start of a new tradition honoring the pioneers and key contributors who shaped the history of the storied oval.
Set for August 30-31, 2025, this year’s event will pay tribute to the lasting contributions of former IRRA President and WISSOTA Tech Director Bill Engelstad. In recognition of his impact on both Hibbing Speedway (formerly Hibbing Raceway) and the broader racing community, the crown jewel will officially be named the 2025 Bill Engelstad Labor Day Shootout.
“Bill Engelstad was a huge part of the history of Hibbing Speedway and WISSOTA,” said Barry Braun of XR Events. “Dedicating our biggest event of the season to our track pioneers and contributors is something we value deeply, and this is a fitting way to memorialize their efforts.”

Hibbing Speedway has reshuffled its early 2026 schedule, canceling the May 16 opener and pushing the traditional WISSOTA opener to May 31. The Diamond Sprint Cars have also been moved off Memorial Day weekend to headline Northwoods Speedweek on August 5, along with a handful of other adjustments.
